There was known animosity between Ram and his full-brother, Ramon Joseph “RJ” Bautista, over money. Ram was allegedly in charge of the substantial monthly allowance provided by their father, former Senator Ramon Revilla Sr., and his siblings felt he was not distributing it fairly.

They claimed that RJ and Ramona were the masterminds behind the entire plot, offering them PHP 200,000 to carry out the act.
